Where to get a good buzz

Places divided by Interest

… to wear your Jimmy Choos:
Whiskey Blue is the uptown bar of Santiago, located in the beautiful W hotel in Las Condes, Isidora Goyenechea 3000. The bar is the brainchild of nightclub visionary Rande Gerber, owner of the Sky Bar in Los Angeles, CA and the Morgan Bar in New York, NY. It’s open every day of the week except Sundays and Mondays; stays open until 4 a.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

… to meet locals and foreigners:
Miercoles Po, may just be the craziest Wednesday night you’ve ever seen. What started as a weekly gringo meet-up has since transformed into a raucous, cross-cultural, mid-week bonanza. Miercoles Po isn’t a club, but an extensive community that meets each Wednesday at a different bar or club in Santiago. They’ve even branched out from nightlife, organizing day trips and cultural activities. Follow their Facebook page for news on where they’re meeting this Wednesday.

… to learn the cueca:
Huaso Enrique serves up steaming hot cueca on Thursday nights in the bohemian neighborhood of Barrio Brasil, Maipú 462. If you thought Chile’s national dance was only for grannies, think again: the dance floor heats up with couples of every age, fluttering their handkerchiefs provocatively to live music. Take a seat and enjoy a pitcher of borgoña (red wine with strawberries) before stepping out onto the dance floor.

If you want to polish your moves beforehand, stop by the nearby Galpón Victor Jara on Huérfano 2146, where they offer free cueca lessons every Tuesday from 7pm to 10pm.

… to shake your dreadlocks:
Jammin’ is a little reggae club with a lot of onda - a chilenismo for “vibes,” or “good atmosphere.” Located in the nightlife hotspot of Barrio Bellavista, on Calle Antonia López de Bello 49, Jammin’ plays it cool with a friendly dance floor, chilled-out crowd and lots of fragrant smoke wafting overhead, making it a pleasant “night cap” after an evening out in Bellavista.

… to hear live jazz:
Both El Perseguidor and Thelonius offer fantastic live jazz shows all week long. In Providencia, Antonia López de Bello 0126, El Perseguidor has live music every night starting at 10:00 pm, and the cover charges run between CP$1500 - 2000 (US$3-4). In Barrio Bellavista, Bombero Nuñez 336, Thelonius is open every day of the week in an intimate setting. Both bars have extensive cocktail menus.

… to party like a politician:
Bar The Clinic is the official bar of Chile’s satirical political newspaper, The Clinic. The walls are plastered with inside-jokes on Chilean politics; if John Stewart were a bar, he would be Bar The Clinic. The downtown location on Monjitas 578 makes it a popular spot for foreigners and young professionals of a certain political stripe, but the excellent selection of tapas and beer on tap keeps everyone happy. If you get even half the references written on the wall, pat yourself on the back.

… to dance all night long:
Blondie has become a Santiago nightlife institution, crowding three dance floors into a warehouse on Alameda, near Metro station ULA. The club hosts popular theme nights like “Indie University Party” on Thursdays, “Old New Hits” playing singles from the 90’s and 80’s, and “Britanica,” with Brit Pop, Manchester, and Post Punk. The popular student destination fills up in the wee hours of the morning, and it’s a good place to see one of Santiago’s most well-known urban tribes: los “pokemones.”

Looking for more dancing?
Visit the centrally-located Bar El Tunel, on Santo Domingo 439, which serves a consistent fare of dance music and young professional partiers. And if El Tunel isn’t your scene (or you find the cover charge outrageous - careful, as it tends to go up as the night goes on), check out the bar Clandestinoacross the Mapocho river, in Barrio Bellavista, Bombero Nuñez 363. Or, head down to the trendy Ñuñoa-Providencia neighborhood and see what’s on the DJ’s turntable at El Atico, Avenida Irarrázaval 1060.

Local Drinks
  • Wine: Chile produces some excellent wines, competing with France, California, Australia and New Zealand for world markets. Notable are the Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere in red, along with whites from the Casablanca valley.
  • Mote con Huesillo: A delicous summertime drink made of wheat seeds (mote) and dried peaches (huesillos) boiled, sweetened, and served cold. Typically sold on sidewalk or park stands.[6]
  • Chilean Pisco: Brandy made from Muscat grapes. Popular brands are Capel, Alto del Carmen, Mistral and Campanario.**
  • Pisco Sour: One of Chile's most popular mixed drinks, this consists of Pisco mixed with lemon juice and sugar. It has a delicious tart sweetness.
  • Mango Sour: Pisco mixed with mango juice.
  • Piscola: Pisco mixed with Coke.
  • Borgoña: Red wine and strawberries.
  • Terremoto: ("Earthquake"): a typical Chilean drink that consists in a mix of pineapple ice cream with pipeño (like white wine).
  • Schop: Draught beer.
  • Fan-Schop: Beer mixed with orange Fanta or Orange Crush soft drink. A refreshing alternative on a hot summer day.
  • Beers: Cristal and Escudo are the most popular (light lagers). Royal Guard is a fair bit tastier, Kunstmann is on pair with European imported beer.
  • Jote*: wine and Coke.
    • There's a very known conflict between Chile and Peru about the origin of Pisco. Although Pisco was registered as a chilean drink for some countries in the last century, it is historically peruvian in origin for much longer. Further, chilean and peruvian drinks are not the same product, they have different manufacturing procedures, different varieties of grape and not the same taste.
Unlike other latin-american countries, in Chile it's illegal to drink in unlicensed, public areas (streets, parks, etc.) The laws also restrict vendor hours depending on the weekday (in no case after 3 AM or before 9 AM).

Chileans drink a lot of alcohol. So don't be surprised to see one bottle per person.Personally I have to tell you a secret, Im not the Nº1 Fan of this tab, because of all the drinking and one night stands, just looking for sex, no atachments, commitments and just for the fun of it… wow, I will give it another thought! Haha!

Going out and getting some action.

So, here I’m not going to give you many options, but to get some body to body restle at the end of the night, bullet proof guide in Santiago! Even you! The smely one and the thin fact-nerd with the thick glasses, can make it. But, first go and put some deodrant please!

Now girls and boys, we have to go threw a couple of escencial rules and leveling backgrond before we start:

First, you will have to try some pisco, and use it according to its manual, that im giving you next

Second, making a bit drunk the other part is accepted, we are not 15 any more and we are not actually looking for the love of your lifes.

Third, we have to accept that we are behaving as dushbags or pigs,  with all the respect to the animal, but if you dig a bit on it you will find out that our porky friend expirience a 30 min orgasme. Not bad being a pig tonight!

Fourth, for all of you girls, aim and don't loose the target you'll set up at the beginning, Cause the pisco is going to start making effect and you are not going to end up with “the best product”

Pisco Manual for after party entertainment
(follow it step by step or the ending could be unpleasant)

1-  all your pisco must be taken with coke

2-  each glass must be followed by another

3-  Extra points for being the firstone naked

4-  After first player gets naked, all remaining players must also get naked

5-  Wild dancing and unususal behavior is the object of the game

6-  Extra point to do a shot of pisco

7-  Even bad pisco (or cheap one) is good pisco!

8-  Anyone who remembers anything the next day is disqualified

Leaving jokes beside, be careful from who you get an invite drink or after party, you are not in your home town anymore, trust your guts, you know when to be friendly with someone else.
